"Only 4 syeds sorry 4 others"
Several people I know joined this group. Saddened by this, I decided to update my facebook status portraying my stance on the ridiculousness of the issue, and how it truly hurts the feelings of those who are not called "syed."
And then.... all jahannum broke loose...
Mehak Rizvi I think it's quite sad when you have to brag about being a "syed."
I now understand that it was wrong of me to present this strong of an opinion in the blunt manner that I did. Though my stance remains--I apologize for hurting anyone's feelings on the discussion.
I totally demand that my entire message be shown on here!=P
ReplyDeleteyeah i actually saw that 'syed only' group after the end of this conversation. it's nice and all that everyone is agreeing on the subject, but the problem still exists and we didn't do anything to resolve it. we all say 'oh wait till our generation and things will be straightened up', i used to believe in that theory until i saw children in my generation being brainwashed just like their parents. what that means is that something has to be done about it.
ReplyDeletealso it starts with FH's comment as I think she touched upon it. There are rules on syed and non-syed sadaqa, what's the understanding behind these rules and how are they not discriminatory, but of course Allah knows best and Allah knows all, but if anyone has the answer..please share

ReplyDelete"Muhammad Bin Yaqoub from Muhammad Bin Ismail from Al Fadhal Bin Shazaan from Safwan Bin Yahya from Abdul Rahman Bin Al Hajjaj from Ja'fa Bin Ibrahim Al Hashemi from the Holy Imam Ja'far Al Sadiq (a.s.): It was asked of him, 'Is it permissible to give Sadqa to the Bani Hashim?' He (a.s.) said: 'That sadqa which is obligatory upon the people is not permissible to us. Apart from that there is no problem. And were it so when we go to Hajj to Mecca, this water is given as charity by people (and we could not have been able to take it).
-Al-Kafi V-4 P-59, Tahzeeb V-4 P-62, WasailuShia V-9 P-272, Bihar V-65 P-331"
giving sadqa to the Ahl al-Bayt was not permissible, so i believe the concept of syeds not receiving sadqa (charity) follows that rule.

in terms of the other issue at hand --
“And make yourself gentle to the believers.”
(Surah al-Hijr 15:88)
“And the servants of the Beneficent God are they who walk on the earth in humbleness…”
(Surah al-Furqān 25: 63)

Hey salaam guys,
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing. For the hadith Sameera posted, people are pretty much familiar with it because most shias follow the hadith and ruling. But it still posses a question in my head which iA maybe Bahar Uloom can make a bit clearer when I ask him.
I still wonder, what if the syed who is not permissible to accept this sadaqa is poor and in a foreign country and is in dire need of the sadaqa. What does he do then? Also, is this hadith in reference to the pure 100% syeds (the Prophet's family--who are the Bani Hashim)?
Insha'Allah I will do my best to find a tafseer or find someone who can help me with the tafseer of this hadith.
